Reservoir Stimulation in Petroleum Production

Reservoir stimulation and artificial lift are the two main activities of the production engineer in the petroleum and related industries. The main purpose of stimulation is to enhance the property value by the faster delivery of the petroleum fluid and/or to increase ultimate economic recovery.

Matrix stimulation and hydraulic fracturing are intended to remedy, or even improve, the natural connection of the wellbore with the reservoir, which could delay the need for artificial lift. This chapter outlines stimulation techniques as tools to help manage and optimize reservoir development.

Understanding stimulation requires understanding the fundamental issues of petroleum production and the position and applicability of the process.

Well Performance : By Michael Golan, Curtis H. Whitson

Explores the engineering operations and tasks involved with analyzing the production behaviour of oil and gas wells. The book discusses the effect of well size, reservoir data and operating conditions on the production site. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This book explores engineering operations and tasks involved with analyzing the production behavior of oil and gas wells. Offering a wealth of practical guidelines, readers will understand:

The affect of well size, reservoir data, and operating conditions on the production rate

Hydraulic design of wells and how to analyze their performance using numerical methods

Methods for establishing the productivity of wells using test data in ways to predict productivity changes that occur due to stimulation treatment or reservoir depletion

The utilization of well performance design In assessing the mechanical status of the well and the development planning of large oil fields. And the application of artificial lift methods

The book offers readers numerous examples demonstrating how each procedure. can be applied to their practical analysis chores".

Production optimization using nodal analysis Beggs

Any production well is drilled and completed to move the oil or gas from its original location in the reservoir to the stock tanck or sales line. Movement or transportof these fluids requires energy to overcome friction losses in the system and to lift tha prodcuts to the surface. The fluids must travel through the reservoir and the piping system and ultimately flow into a separator for gas-liquid separation. The production system can be relatively simple or can include many components in wich energy or pressure occur.

Petroleum Production Engineering By B. Guo, W.C. Lyons

Petroleum Production Engineering, A Computer-Assisted Approach provides handy guidelines to designing, analyzing and optimizing petroleum production systems. Broken into four parts, this book covers the full scope of petroleum production engineering, featuring stepwise calculations and computer-based spreadsheet programs. Part one contains discussions of petroleum production engineering fundamentals, empirical models for production decline analysis, and the performance of oil and natural gas wells. Part two presents principles of designing and selecting the main components of petroleum production systems including: well tubing, separation and dehydration systems, liquid pumps, gas compressors, and pipelines for oil and gas transportation. Part three introduces artificial lift methods, including sucker rod pumping systems, gas lift technology, electrical submersible pumps and other artificial lift systems. Part four is comprised of production enhancement techniques including, identifying well problems, designing acidizing jobs, guidelines to hydraulic fracturing and job evaluation techniques, and production optimization techniques.

Production Operations: Well Completions, Workover, and Stimulation

This two-volume set of books encompasses well production operations from the time the first potential oil or gas horizon is penetrated until the well is abandoned. Primary focus is on well completions, workovers, and stimulation, which are key and critical to producing operations.

These books emphasize the importance of total reservoir description including geology and fluid flow characteristics, the role of effective communication between the reservoir and the wellbore, the pitfalls of flow restriction around the wellbore, the importance of knowing where fluids are and where they are moving, and the problems of excluding undesired fluids.

All these factors become more important in the areas of waterflooding and enhanced methods to maximize recovery of increasingly valuable hydrocarbon fluids. Practical approaches to defining and solving these problems constitutes the substance of these volumes.
